HONG KONG   THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL OMBUDSMAN SUMMIT WILL BE HELD IN CELEBRATION OF THIS OFFICE’S 35TH ANNIVERSARY.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Office of The Ombudsman in Hong Kong, China. To commemorate this important milestone, our Office will be hosting the first International Ombudsman Summit with the theme “Ombudsman in a Changing World: Learning from the Past; Preparing for the Future” on 3 December 2024 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.

MACAU   CCAC DETECTED A CASE INVOLVING A SUPERVISOR OF AN INTEGRATED RESORT ENTERPRISE WHO SOLICITED BRIBES TO ASSIST JOB SEEKERS TO BE RECRUITED.

The CCAC received a complaint from a resident, indicating that some workers of an integrated resort enterprise of Macao had disclosed that they had paid placement fees in order to be recruited as stewards. After investigation of the CCAC, it came to light that the supervisor of the stewarding department of the aforesaid enterprise was suspected to solicit bribes from some Chinese mainland residents who intended to work in Macao in return for assisting them to work in the enterprise, which involved an amount of nearly RMB190,000.

PAKISTAN   PROBLEMS OF OVERSEAS PAKISTANIS BE RESOLVED ON TOP PRIORITY-FEDERAL OMBUDSMAN.

The Wafaqi Mohtasib, Mr. Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has instructed all Departments dealing with the Overseas Pakistanis to redouble their efforts for early resolution of their problems. He has further directed the NADRA to set up its offices in Bahrain and Baghdad and asked the ASF to issue entry passes to the OPF officials performing duties at the “One Window Facilitation Desks”.

REPUBLIC OF KOREA   PLANTING K-CLEAN DNA IN CENTRAL ASIA AND EASTERN EUROPE.

Starting today (10, June), the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) will commence a specialized anti-corruption training program for officials from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. This program aims to share Korea’s best anti-corruption policies and systems, including the Comprehensive Integrity Assessment for Public Institutions and the Clean Portal.

HONG KONG   OMBUDSMAN SAFEGUARDS PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION FOR CONTINUOUS COMMUNITY BETTERMENT.

TThe Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, presented the 2023/24 Annual Report of the Office of The Ombudsman to the public today (3 July). The Office fully met all 11 of its targets on service standards in handling enquiries, complaints, reassessments and complaint reviews and exceeded ten of those targets in the reporting year.

PROVINCIAL OMBUDSMAN SINDH    OMBUDSMAN SINDH HOLDS THE FOLLOWUP SESSION WITH 10 SELECTED STUDENTS OF HAMDARD UNIVERSITY AS AMBASSADORS FOR HIS INSTITUTE.

Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Ombudsman Sindh presided the follow-up session of Brand Ambassador Program on 22nd July, 2024 at the Secretariat Provincial Ombudsman Sindh with the 10 selected students as Ambassadors for Ombudsman Sindh from the Hamdard University. Syed Umair Ali, Assistant Registrar, Hamdard University accompanied the students.

AZERBAIJAN    THE OMBUDSMAN OF AZERBAIJAN PARTICIPATED ONLINE IN THE IV SAMARKAND FORUM ON HUMAN RIGHTS.

Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated online in the IV Samarkand Forum on Human Rights and made a presentation on the topic ‘Environmental Challenges: Ensuring Sustainable Solutions for the Future of Human Rights in a Changing World.

REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN    COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ADDRESES NTERREGIONAL CONFERENCE ON “TRANSFORMING DETENTION AND THE FUTURE OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN ISOLATION”.

The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan addressed the Interregional Conference “Transformation of Detention and Future of Human Rights in Isolation” in Moscow. The main objective of the conference is to consolidate the efforts of human rights commissioners, as well as other institutions of civil society, in order to solve urgent problems related to ensuring the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of suspects, accused and convicted persons.

REPUBLIC OF KOREA    “VETERAN FAMILY STATUS” FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS SHOULD BE JUDGED WITH REASONABLE STANDARDS.

Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC, Chairperson Ryu Chul Whan) has determined that it is desirable to register foreign spouses who have met the residency period requirements and established a solid living foundation in Korea, including language and cultural integration, as eligible family members for veterans’ compensation.

TIMOR-LESTE    OMBUDSMAN URGES GOVERNMENT ACTION ON HEALTH ISSUES AMID CONCERNS.

Virgílio da Silva Guterres ‘Lamukan’, Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice, has urgently called upon the Minister of Health and her team to address pressing issues affecting hospitals in Timor-Leste. Speaking at Hotel Timor on July 10th, Guterres emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “We cannot afford to let the situation in hospitals deteriorate further.” He expressed deep concern over the current state of hospitals, echoing sentiments from other entities: “The President of the Republic and other entities have also voiced their concerns.”

TIMOR-LESTE    PDHJ TIMOR-LESTE HOSTS SEANF’S SECOND TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP MEETING ON HUMAN RIGHTS.

From July 10-11, 2024, the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice (PDHJ) Timor-Leste hosted the Second Technical Working Group Meeting (TWG) of the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institution Forum (SEANF) in Dili. Under the theme “Human Rights for All, Especially in Southeast Asia: Respected, Protected, and Enjoyed Equally by All,” the meeting welcomed SEANF members both in person and online.

GEORGIA    CONTINUOUS TRAINING ON WORKING METHODS OF NATIONAL PREVENTIVE MECHANISM .

On July 17-19, 2024, within the framework of the European Union project – “Support to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia”, a training was held for the employees of the Office and members of the Special Preventive Group on the working methods of the National Preventive Mechanism.
