PAKISTAN   FEDERAL OMBUDSMAN INAUGURATES REGIONAL OFFICE IN MIRPUR KHAS.

Mirpur Khas: February 20, 2025 – The Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman), Mr. Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has formally inaugurated new Regional Office in Mirpur Khas (Sindh). Addressing the inaugural ceremony, he urged the government officials to redouble their efforts for providing speedy relief to the public. He said that the institution of Wafaqi Mohtasib was receiving an increasing number of complaints as its outreach expanded and new offices have been established in Muzaffarabad (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltisan.

HONG KONG   OMBUDSMAN ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF DIRECT INVESTIGATION OPERATION INTO GOVERNMENT’S ARRANGEMENTS FOR RECOVERY, REFURBISHMENT AND REALLOCATION OF PUBLIC RENTAL HOUSING FLATS.

The Ombudsman, Mr. Jack Chan, today (20 February) announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Government’s arrangements for the recovery, refurbishment and reallocation of public rental housing (“PRH”) flats, and has made 19 major recommendations for improvements to the Housing Department (“HD”) and the Hong Kong Housing Society (“HKHS”).

MACAO   COMMISSIONER AGAINST CORRUPTION AO IEONG SEONG PARTICIPATES IN THE 14TH GENERAL MEETING OF THE IAACA ONLINE.

The Commissioner against Corruption Ao Ieong Seong, the Deputy Commissioner cum Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Wong Kim Fong, as well as other CCAC staff, participated in the 14th General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) by video conference this afternoon.

AZERBAIJAN    THE OMBUDSMAN PARTICIPATED AT THE TURKOMB NEXT MEETING.

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Sabina Aliyeva, participated at the next meeting of the Association of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) of Turkic States (TURKOMB), which was held online. At the meeting was also joined by ombudspersons, heads, and representatives of NHRIs of Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan said that the Association became an effective platform for exchanging experiences in the field of human rights.

MACAO   CCAC UNCOVERS ALLEGED FALSIFICATION OF ATTENDANCE RECORDS AND ABSENCE FROM DUTY BY A CHIEF OF THE FIRE SERVICES BUREAU.

The CCAC detected a case where a chief of an operational post of the Fire Services Bureau (CB) allegedly falsified attendance records in an attempt to conceal his absence from duty during his working hours. The CCAC initiated an investigation upon receipt of a report in 2024 and discovered that between December 2023 and May 2024, the chief involved left the territory twice during work time or an additional work period (commonly known as “supplementary shift”).

REPUBLIC OF TATARSTAN   EXPERT COUNCIL RECORDS IMPRESSIVE RESULTS OF WORK BY THE COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS.

As part of an expanded meeting of the Expert Council under the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan, the results of the work for 2024 were summed up and tasks were set for 2025.In 2024, 5,417 appeals were received by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Tatarstan, 773 of them through the ESIA, which is 41% more than a year earlier.

On February 10, 2025, the report on the Ombudsman’s activities for 2024 was heard at the sessions of the fraktions of the Legislative Chamber of the OliyMajlis, including the fraktions of the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish”, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the SDP “Adolat” and the “UzLiDeP” fraktion.

One of the important areas of the Ombudsman’s activity of Azerbaijan is related to the protectionof the rights of persons with disabilities. On the occasion of January 4 – World Braille Day, the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva initiated a special educational product titled “National Preventive Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture,” which was prepared in Braille for people with complete visual impairments.

UZBEKISTAN    WAGES OF OVER 100 MILLION SUMS HAVE BEEN RECOVERED.

Authorized Person of the OliyMajlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) has received a collective appeal from citizens in Syrdarya province. In the appeal, citizens complained that the production enterprise located in the city of Gulistan did not pay wages for a 15-day working period in October and November 2023.
