Ombudsperson held an online meeting with NGOs
The Ombudsperson, Sabina Aliyeva held an online meeting with national NGOs and representatives of the civil society organizations, discussed the future
cooperation and answered the questions of them.
It was noted that as a close partners of the Ombudsperson the NGOs, civil society organizations play an important role in ensuring human rights, democracy and the
rule of law in the country. The Ombudsperson mentioned the importance of
mutual cooperation with civil society and NGOs in effective implementation of the
National Program for Action to Raise Effectiveness of the Protection of Human
Rights and Freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Ombudsperson pointed out the importance of strengthening the activities in implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. It was also
mentioned the importance of coordinated work in preparing the reports to be
submitted to the relevant international organizations.
In the meeting the participants also discussed the improvement of the national legislation in respect of human rights, the issue of combating corruption as well
as making amendments to the Constitutional Law on the Commissioner for Human
Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting new structure of the Council of Independent Experts under the auspices of the Ombudsman Institution was discussed and the proposals were
put forward by the NGO members on improving the regulation of the Council and
setting up different working groups on concrete directions of human rights and
conducting monitoring together with representatives of the Ombudsman
Institution.
In the end of the meeting the Ombudsperson thanked to the participants for joining the meeting and stressed the importance of continuation such meetings in
