The protection of the rights of vulnerable groups of the population is
in the focus of the Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan
From the first days of outbreak of COVID-19 in the country the issues of ensuring human rights of all groups of population in the country has been in focus
of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of
Azerbaijan. Taking into consideration the current conditions of a special
quarantine regime declared by the Government since March 24, 2020, the
Ombudsperson contacts on regular basis her regional centers to study the
situation on human rights in districts, particularly, in rural areas and makes
recommendations addressed to relevant state bodies
The Ombudsperson has recently conducted online meetings with four regional centers. She has been informed on ensuring human rights of all groups of
population, including minorities in rural places at ongoing special quarantine
regime and also gave due instructions.
The Ombudsperson continues awareness raising activities on combating
discrimination and ensuring the equal rights of every citizen in the country. During
the special quarantine regime the staff of the Ombudsman Institute has held an
online meeting with the representatives of the Council of Europe. The heads of
the Ombudsman’s regional centers also joined the meeting. During the meeting,
the staff has shared information on the activities of the Ombudsperson on
undertaking necessary measures for ensuring the equal rights of all groups of the
population without any discrimination at the special quarantine regime.
