The Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan met with the Prosecutor General

 

 

The Ombudsperson, Sabina Aliyeva met with the Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev to discuss the issues on effective ensuring the rights and freedoms of the citizens, as well as to exchange the views on mutual cooperation.

During the meeting such issues as the improvement of the national legislation in the light of universal principles and international
treaties to which Azerbaijan is party, the application of new approaches, effective implementation of the national legislation and international standards on revention of possible torture and other inhuman treatment have been touched upon.

The Ombudsperson also discussed with the Prosecutor General the appeals addressed to her in the frame of her mandate as a National Preventive Mechanism, as well as the measures reflected in these
appeals. The issues related to the juveniles and persons with disabilities, accused in criminal cases were among the main subjects highlighted in the meeting.

The parties assessed the opportunities for future cooperation to enhance the level of organizing control over the implementation and
application of laws in terms and cases prescribed by the legislative
acts; studying status of prosecutor’s observance in this area; taking
measures aimed at preventing identified violations of law; developing methodical recommendations and reports.
