Azerbaijani Ombudsperson visited Tofig Yagublu

The Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva paid an unannounced visit to the Investigation Isolator No. 3 of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the framework of the activity as the National Preventive Mechanism.

The aim of the visit was to investigate the issues related to detention conditions, treatment, quality of nutrition and medical care in the facility.

Several detainees, including Tofig Yagublu, who has been reported to refuse to eat, have been confidentially received within the framework of the visit

Tofig Yagublu said that he had gone on a hunger strike to protest the criminal case and the court decision concerning him. During the visit also attended by a doctor member of the Ombudsperson’s National Preventive Group (NPG), he was recommended to start food intake in order to avoid serious health problems.

Furthermore, the administration of the facility, as well as of its medical and sanitary unit was recommended to keep T.Yagublu’s health condition under the control.

Detainees have been informed about the competencies of the Ombudsperson and legally recommended on the issues raised by them, their applications have been accepted, some have been provided on site.
