Ombudsman laid the 2021 Annual Report before the Parliament

On 4 March 2022, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan spoke in the Parliament with her Annual Report for 2021 on the protection of human rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan.  

Ms. Aliyeva paid tribute to the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev, who played a special role in the establishment of the Ombudsman’s Office, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. Afterward, the memory of the well-known ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva was commemorated. The Ombudsman also visited the Alley of Martyrs and paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs who had fallen for the freedom and territorial integrity of our country.

During her speech in the Parliament, the Ombudsman drew attention to the situation with the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the work done, the existing problems, activities in the postwar period, and the tasks ahead. Furthermore, in the 2021 Annual Report, the Ombudsman made a number of suggestions and recommendations to ensure more effective protection of human rights and freedoms in our country.

The Ombudsman’s 2021 Annual Report will be placed on the official website of the Institution and submitted to the relevant media outlets for publication.
