On  17-20 November, 2019 there will be a Mega Event of Ombudsmanship in Turkey. it will include:-

1. 2nd Istanbul International Ombudsman Conference on “Principles of Good Administration and Ombudsman”
2. Asian Ombudsman Association(AOA): General Assembly and Board of Directors Meetings.
3. OIC Ombudsman Association(OICOA): General Assembly  and Steering Committee Meetings.

Hallmark of the Event  is  the Elections of the Board of Directors and General Assembly Meetings of  the two Ombudsman Organizations.

ARMENIA    Policy fully accepted Ombudsman´s recommendations on arrestees´ rights

The draft decision of the Armenian Government on making changes in the internal regulation of places for keeping arrestees in the RA Police system was submitted for the opinion of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia. The study of the project indicates that it fully reflects the recommendations made by the Ombudsman.

ARMENIA    Human Rights Defender’s statement concerning letters sent to news websites

The competent representative of the RA Investigative Committee gave public clarification that the RA Investigative Committee had sent official letters to the editorial administration of Armlur.am and Hayeli.am news websites with regard to the criminal proceeding initiated into circumstances of the former head of the RA Police Hayk Harutyunyan’s death.

Ombudsman organizes regular meetings and public awareness campaigns with different groups of population including minorities, local and religious communities in different regions of the country, learning their problems and taking necessary measures in resolving them said Zaur Valimammadli, the chief of the international relations department of the Ombudsman Institution, at the High-Level Conference devoted to the 25th anniversary of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) in Paris, France. He emphasized the importance of public awareness for identification of hate speech or discrimination cases. He also mentioned that the Ombudsman closely cooperates with international organizations for bringing national legislation in line with international law and standards in effective combating discrimination, hate speech and intolerance. With this purpose Azerbaijani Ombudsman joined the CoE/EU Good Governance Partnership regional project “Strenghening the access to justice through non-judicial redress mechanisms for victims of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech in Eastern Partnership countries”.

ARMENIA    Parliament adopted legislative package based on monitoring of Human Rights Defender

Under the new Constitution of 2015 the mandate of the Human Rights Defender (HRD) has been expanded by including the power to facilitate the improvement of the regulatory legal acts related to human rights and freedoms. Following the Constitutional Amendments, a new Constitutional Law on Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia was adopted in December 2016. Within this constitutional function, a new practice of reflecting monitoring results in draft laws by the HRD Office is being exercised.

AZERBAIJAN    Public awareness campaign on ICPD 25 Summit by Azerbaijani Ombudsman

The adoption of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action in Egypt in 1994 created new vision and values for the sustainable development that take place in 2030 Agenda. This year, the ICPD 25 Summit will be held in Nairobi in November. With regard to the ICPD 25 Summit Azerbaijani Ombudsman organized public awareness campaign on Cairo+25 in the country. So far many regional public awareness events were organized jointly with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the regions covering 35 cities and rayons of the country. The state officials, the representatives of the NGOs and different communities took part at these events.
