PAKISTAN First ever Empirical Study submitted to Wafaqi Mohtasib regarding the Plight of Street Children in IslamabadThe Federal Ombudsman has directed all concerned agencies of the Federal Govt. to implement the recommendations of the study report on “Plight of Street Children” in Islamabad prepared by the task force constituted by him. He was addressing a press conference in his office wherein the background of the study, its salient findings and key recommendations were brought out by him. He vowed to ensure the implementation of the recommendations. The study sets out priorities and gives evidence-based recommendations to the key stakeholders & government agencies. |

PAKISTAN-Federal Tax Ombudsman FTO Takes Notice of FBR’s Harsh Treatment Towards Senior CitizenAn old lady, who is a compliant taxpayer before Tax Ombudsman, was burdened with multiple audit notices for the tax year 2016. She was engaged in the textile manufacturing business when the final show cause notice for compliance was issued. The complainant applied for an extension which was rejected and an ex-parte order was passed asking for Rs. 2.7 million. However, all the relevant details of purchases and expenses were not only filed but also duly examined by the officer but the ex-parte order was passed without considering the details available on record. |

Hong Kong Office of the Ombudsman announces results of Direct Investigation into problem of alleged illegal operation of Kaito Ferry ServiceThe Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (1 September) announced at a press conference the completion of a direct investigation into the problem of alleged illegal operation of kaito ferry service, and made 10 recommendations for improvement to the Marine Department (MD) and the Transport Department (TD).In general, kaito service is the mode of point-to-point marine transport charging passengers’ separate fares for commuting to and from remote destinations in Hong Kong that are largely inaccessible by roads. Operators are required to apply for kaito ferry service licences from the TD and provide the service with specified vessels. |
